Bring your family back to the heart of Christmas by focusing on God’s greatest gift– Jesus, the Light of the World.
Family Activity:
Teaching Time: 15 minutes
Materials: 1 taper candle, 5 other candles, matches, printed gift tag, scissors, marker
Many people decorate with candles at Christmastime. In John 8:12, Jesus calls Himself the Light of the World. Light the taper candle. Jesus came to be the Savior of the world. He gives the gift of salvation to anyone who believes in Him. Even though Jesus came to earth thousands of years ago, many people in the world still haven’t heard about Him. They live in the darkness of sin. Point to the five unlit candles. Some are Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, unreligious people, and people who worship spirits. Our family knows Jesus, the Light of the World. God wants our family to pass on what we know to those who have not heard about Him yet. Use the lit candle’s flame to light the remaining candles.
Discuss:
- Read John 1:4. What or who is the light? Why are many people still waiting for this light?
- Read Matthew 5:14-16. As a family, how can we bring our light into the dark places? Cut out and complete the gift tag. Put it in a place where you will see it during the holiday season.
Pray:
Pray that families in every culture on earth would have the opportunity to know and follow Jesus, the Light of the World.
