The Psalms are a collection of songs, prayers, and poems that record God’s purposes to bring the nations into worship. Written by several authors, primarily King David, the Psalms remind us of God’s desire to be worshiped by all nations. Psalm 67 reminds Israel that God did not call them as His own for their own personal benefit and blessing. Instead, the psalmist reminds the people that God’s graciousness and blessings come to them so that God’s salvation is known among all nations, and that all the ends of the earth will fear God.

Materials: sandwich ingredients
Read Psalm 67 together. Did you know that in Psalm 67 there’s a blessing sandwich? At the top and bottom of the chapter, God blesses us. This is the bread of the sandwich. Read verse 1 and verse 6 again. In the middle verses, God tells us the reason why He blesses us and what we need to do. That’s the filling of our sandwich. Read verses 2-5 again. God blesses us so that we can share the good news of Jesus with other people who haven’t heard yet.
Have each family member make their favorite sandwich. As you make your sandwiches, share about all the different ways God has blessed each of you. Although these ways may be different, but the purpose remains the same. God blesses us so that all the ends of the earth will fear Him (verse 7).
Discuss:
- Are there places in the world that you know of where people do not fear God? What does it mean to fear God?
- Read Psalm 67:7 together, but instead of using “us,” insert your family’s last name. How can we use our blessings to help these people come to know God?
