When Modeling Mobilizes

The Seed Company works through native speakers to translate Scripture for people groups who do not have God’s Word available in their heart language. Here’s a true story of how God used a nine-year-old girl and her mother to mobilize their local church to become involved in a translation project called Adopt-A-Verse.

My name is Leandra and I am nine years old. My family was participating in a project to help a people group in Asia receive God’s Word for the very first time. It takes $35 USD to translate one Bible verse into their language. My goal was to translate ten verses.

Mother asked our pastor if I could share about this family project with the people at my church. Pastor James got really excited and decided to interview me during the church service. My mom and I made a big poster that told all about the Adopt-a-Verse translation project we were doing at home.

Mom and I invited the people at church to join with our family in this project for the coming month. We showed a video where kids were holding up two jars with different amounts of candy to represent how many languages have the entire Bible and how many languages are still waiting for translation.

For the next three Sundays, we had people put the money they brought for Adopt-A-Verse into a collection jar. On our poster we used paper cutouts of candy to keep track of how much money our church congregation gave. Each candy stood for $1.

After the three weeks, Pastor James let me tell the people how much money was collected. We went way over my goal of $350. The people at my church were very generous! I brought a big thank you card to church. On it was a picture that I made. The drawing showed what I imagined it would look like for this people group to finally receive the Bible in their own language.

What about your family? How are you partnering with God in His mission to make Himself known and worshiped by every tribe, tongue, and nation? Who might you invite to join with you?
