Sticky Rice Cakes

Preparation Time: 65 minutes | Serves: 8-10


  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 2 ½ cups brown sugar
  • 4 ½ cups sweet flour rice
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • dried, pitted dates

To prepare

  1. Mix water, brown sugar, and vegetable oil in a bowl.
  2. Add the sweet rice flour and mix thoroughly.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a greased 8-inch round pan.
  4. Set the dates in the middle of the mixture.
  5. Fill a large frying pan with one inch of water and bring to a slow boil.
  6. Carefully set the round pan in the boiling water.
  7. Cover the frying pan with a lid or aluminum foil.
  8. Gently steam for about 50 minutes.
