A Push Out of the Comfort Zone

Faith is a children’s worker at her local church in Nigeria. She loves the Lord and has a great passion for teaching children about Jesus. One day she invited David, a mission mobilizer, to share about unreached peoples with her class. Using a colouring book that depicted children from many different cultures, David taught the kids about five major blocs of unreached peoples in the world (tribal, Hindu, unreligious, Muslim, and Buddhist). Faith helped coordinate a fun children’s activity. The boys and girls coloured pages printed from the colouring book as they learned what the people represented in the drawings believed about God.

Not only was this a shocking lesson for the kids, but also for their teachers. For the first time, they saw the unreached, especially Hindus and Buddhist to whom they had little exposure, as real people instead of statistics. The class ended with the children interceding for the nations, praying in a way they had never done before. This was an amazing sight to behold, but it was not the only amazing thing happening that day. God used this experience to light a fire in Faith’s heart.

Faith attended the Big Story Training in Uyo to learn more about God’s heart and plan for the peoples of the world. Afterwards, she began to apply what she had learned in her own Sunday School classes, integrating the story and mission of God into her children’s lessons. But Faith still felt there was more she could do.

Some time later, Faith learned that David was organizing a short-term mission trip to visit workers serving among unreached peoples in northeast Nigeria. Faith asked David if there was any way she could serve on the trip. “Of course. There is always something to do. We have lots of kids there who need to know about Jesus,” David replied. That was all the motivation Faith needed to sign up with the team.

Faith travelled to a far-away region she had never visited before, just so she could tell the kids there about Jesus. This brief experience impacted and challenged Faith even more. Now she is beginning to ask deeper questions about additional ways she might engage in reaching more unreached children with the gospel.

Do not grow weary in sowing the seeds of a God-sized vision for the world in the children or adults in your sphere of influence. Faith’s story is a powerful example of what envisioning one individual can do.
