At dinner, add a cultural element by eating your family meal in a way that is not typical for you.
Family Activity:
Teaching Time: 15-20 minutes
Materials: chopsticks, large spoons, communal platter, bowls, tablecloth, etc.
Forego silverware and use your hands or chopsticks. Instead of sitting at the table, sit on the floor around a tablecloth. Instead of using individual plates, eat from a communal bowl or platter. As you eat, talk about the difference between a serving bowl and plates. The serving bowl is not supposed to stay full. We remove food from it, sharing the food with each person in the family. For our individual plates to become full, the serving bowl must become empty. God gives each of us talents, experiences, money, and time, not to keep to ourselves, but to spread around to others. As we empty our serving bowl of what we have to share, God continues to provide everything we need to bless others.
Discuss:
- What does our family have in our “serving bowl”?
- How can we use the contents of our serving bowl to spread God’s glory to people who are nearby in our school, neighborhood, and community? People who are far away?
Pray:
Ask God to continually show you new ways to spread His glory by serving others.
