Jesus alone is the way to God. Contrary to what many religions teach, humans cannot earn or achieve their way to him. Instead, God came down to us in the form of a baby. That baby, Jesus, grew up to pay the price for sin and open the way to God for all mankind through his grace and forgiveness.
Family Activity:
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Activity Time: 10 minutes
Materials: Two points around your home or neighborhood, with one point being higher than the other (a staircase, steps, ramp, hill, etc.), Bible marked at Psalm 40:11-13
Have your children stand at Point A (lower) while you stand at Point B (higher). Tell your children that they are in danger. The only way they can be saved is to get to Point B, where you are. While standing at Point A, have your children discuss different ways they might reach you. Have your children ask if they can use a suggested plan before attempting it. Deny children any idea that involves their working to reach you. After an appropriate amount of time, lead your children to discover that the only way they can be rescued is for you to come and get them. Read or have older children read Psalm 40:11-13, and encourage them to apply it to their situation. Give younger children a hint like, “You cannot come to me, but I can ___.” Have them complete the rest of the sentence. When your children ask if you can come to them and take them to Point B, wholeheartedly agree!
Bible:
Read Romans 3:23 and John 14:6.
Discuss:
- What separates us from God? Throughout history, people have tried to approach God using their own ideas. That is why we have so many religions. According to John 14:6, who is the only one who can bring people back into a relationship with God?
- Some people in the world have never heard of Jesus. What are some things our family can do so that these people learn about the only way to God?
Pray:
Thank God for providing Jesus. Ask God to show your family ways to be involved in helping others find the only way to God.
