It was spring in Malawi. The skies were the bluest I had ever seen, and the trees just as green. We were en route to visit a family who had caught a glimpse of God’s heart for the nations, and I was blown away by our discovery.
We walked into the home of the Kachala family where maps covered many walls. One wall displayed a world map that served as a place for Mom and Dad, Elisabeth and Reuben, to gather the family in prayer for the unreached. On another wall hung a map of India. God had led their family to serve among an unreached people group there for a few years when their children were younger before calling the Kachalas home to mobilize the Malawian church. In another room was an inflatable globe. As the teenage Kachala children, Maya and Paul, tossed this globe, the family told stories of how they had used the globe to play games and learn about the 10/40 Window all throughout their lives.
It was obvious that the Kachalas knew God created them to make His glory known around the world. I could tell by the maps on the walls, but mostly I could see it in their eyes as they talked about the nations and I could hear it in their voices when they shared about their home life. They choose to integrate intentional activities into their family time–not just because someone convinced them to, but because they were gripped by a conviction.
This family’s eternal perspective set the course of their everyday moments.
