God blesses his people. All that we have (treasures, talents, time, relationships) and all that we are (children of the living God) come from his hand. What is God’s greater purpose in blessing us? He wants us to use what he has given us to bless other people, especially those who do not know him yet. As we share all that we have with others, we reflect God and draw others to him.
Family Activity
Prep Time: varies by project
Activity Time: 12 minutes
Materials: a drink container with a handle and spout (teapot, pitcher, or carafe), cups, and a favorite family drink
Set the filled drink container and empty cups on the table. Tell your family that you’ve made a favorite drink. Allow them to see and smell it. Comment on how good the drink looks, but don’t serve it yet. Wait until someone asks about drinking it, and then pour some into each cup. As your family enjoys the drink, discuss why the container has a handle and spout. To be useful, drinks need to be poured out. As long as drinks stay inside the container, they are not doing what they were designed to do—quench our thirst. God loves us and fills our lives with blessings – a home, food, clothes, money, toys, family, talents, and the opportunity to know him. When we hoard our blessings or use them only to please ourselves, it is like keeping the drink inside this container. God wants us to pour out the blessings he gives us by sharing them with other people.
Bible:
Read 1 Timothy 1:14 and Psalm 67:7 as a family.
Discuss:
- How has God blessed our family? What should be our biggest motivation for sharing our blessings with others?
- What is the most important reason that God blesses us? How could we pour out our blessings so that other people will come to know Jesus?
Pray:
Ask God to make your family more aware of opportunities to be a blessing to others.
