Many would-be rescuers are standing around the opening, but a lone voice calls out, \u201cI will go down, but you must hold the ropes for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>God is in the business of seeking people who have lived their entire lives in the pit of spiritual darkness. He invites our families to be a part of His rescue operation. Some will move to an international destination, live in another culture, and invest their lives in sharing the light of the gospel with people who have never heard. Many others will serve in an equally important capacity.<\/p>\n<p>As crucial as pit-descending \u201cGoers\u201d are, they cannot function well without a group of \u201cSenders\u201d who are holding tightly to the ropes. Romans 10:14-15 says <em>\u201c\u2026 And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Senders pray, provide resources, encourage, and meet practical needs of global workers! They are invested for the long haul and view themselves as partners in advancing God\u2019s kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>As followers of Jesus, your family can experience the joy of becoming rope-holding Senders who impact the world right from your own living room. How do you get started?<br \/>\n<u><br \/>\n<\/u><u>Finding a Global Worker<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Your family is more likely to become committed Senders if you choose people with whom you already have a relationship. Maybe they\u2019re part of your local church or Bible study, a relative or friend, or a co-worker. If possible, partner with someone that your children know well or a family who has children close to the ages of your own.<\/p>\n<p>What if no one comes to mind? Investigate a ministry that excites you.\u00a0Does your family love sports?\u00a0Research organizations that share the gospel through sport camps.\u00a0Contact one that looks promising and ask them to connect you with some of their global workers.<\/p>\n<p>Be strategic. Choose people who address not only physical, but also spiritual needs. Strongly consider partnering with global workers who are serving among the unreached, those living in cultures with no access to the gospel.<\/p>\n<p><u>Leveraging Your Resources<br \/>\n<\/u>Through the process of sending, your children will begin to understand that God has blessed your family for the greater purpose of blessing the nations. Here are a few ways to develop an ongoing habit of giving financially to God\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For very young children, set out a jar or container and give them spare change to put in. Use the collected money to buy something for your adopted global worker.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>As your children get older, talk about the idea of sacrifice. Occasionally, give up something like a family outing for ice cream or a movie for a less expensive option like game night. Save the money you\u2019d spend and use it towards gifts for your global worker.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Set aside a portion of your income to give to your global worker monthly. If you have older children, involve them in this decision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leveraging your resources is about more than just money. God has blessed your family with possessions, time, skills, and talents. Talk with your family about ways to share them. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do your daughters love knitting or baking? They can make items to sell and donate the money to your global workers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Is your son artistic? He can design birthday cards to send to the children of your global workers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do your teens babysit or love to drive? They can volunteer to watch your global worker\u2019s young children or run errands for them when they are back on home assignment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Are you an accountant or graphic designer? Offer to help your global workers with their taxes or newsletter layout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you have a second car? Lend it to your global workers when they return to your area. They will need to run errands and connect with supporting churches and families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Does your family have the gift of hospitality? When your global workers comes back to your area, offer to host a gathering in your home where they can share about their ministry. Invite their supporters and friends to attend. (Or, offer to help coordinate an event at your church.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>God blesses every family in unique ways so your style of sending won\u2019t look exactly like someone else\u2019s.
